In keeping with the tagline of my blog, “Observing all things beautiful in life and travel”, I am going to share a few of the beautiful things I’ve observed this fall.
This is an exercise in gratitude for the blessings I often overlook.
For the past seven years, it has been my joy and responsibility to prepare my family for holiday travel. In the months preceding Thanksgiving and Christmas, I am usually preoccupied with planning to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
If you happen to be the DTA (Designated Travel Agent) in your family you know exactly what I’m talking about.
This year has been a little different. With no travel plans and a move to a new home in the works I have been able to observe how fall unfolds in a region that isn’t known for stunning fall foliage.
Fall colors emerge in stages, and October is a time to begin the hunt for fall leaves. I find the search for them to be refreshing. It gets me outdoors with my camera looking for color. On my first walk, which happened to be a rainy day, I found specks of red, orange and yellow leaves on the ground and among the mostly green trees.

I found that fall in a warmer climate means that flowering plants still thrive.
Each blooming flower made me remember how much I miss their beauty when the days get too cold for them to bloom.

Remembering to find joy in the everyday, wonder in the little things, and contentment in the world around you is not always easy.
It was a struggle for me not to be busy planning something, but what I would have missed is the opportunity to be able to see the beautiful things around me with new perspective.
It’s a blessing to be able to observe the beauty found in life and travel.
